CANOEING AND WHITE WATER RAFTING- are very popular activities on the famous white waters of Fiume Lao.
The Canoeing and Rafting Corner office is located on Via Lauro and Via Sauro, 0985.21476 / 0985.91033.
You can also see amazing wildlife including the European grey wolf, wild cats, boars and the rare golden eagle. Skiing is possible in the nearby Sila mountains.
Skiing in the Sila Mountains - About one and a half hours drive from Maiera are Calabria's main Ski resorts. These are in the Sila Grande which is near Cosenza (travel south on the SS18 from Scalea and follow signs for Cosenza. Then take the road into the mountains. The three resorts are: Camigliatello Silano 1400m , Lorica 1350-1920m and Ciricilla 1400-1500m.

Scuba Diving at DinoSub - Praia a mare The dive centre is on the beach at Praia a mare (two miles from Scalea) between the 15th of June and the 15th of September. However they also operate from their office between the 15th of May and the 30th of September. The office is inside the holiday village "LA MANTINERA" at Praia a mare.

SNORKELING - lots of interesting sites in Scalea and up the coast.
PARAGLIDING - In Praia a Mare (a few miles away)
AQUA-PARK - In praia a Mare on the beach near Isola Dino. . Aquafan is the biggest water park. in Italy.
HORSE RIDING CENTRE - is located two miles south of Scalea on the Strada for Verbicaro and Marcelluna. La Bruca Riding Centre. Information at the Hotel Talao. Also horse trekking in San Dominica Taloa.
